Can an individual person’s account use Gradecam and Lightning Grader?
Since Gradecam and Lightning Grader sheets are not compatible with each other, you cannot use them at the same time.
Can I switch back to Gradecam after using Lightning Grader?
Yes, you can switch back. However, as a company, we are moving all of our users over to Lightning Grader due to increased functionality and future innovations.
What if I have existing Gradecam assessments printed?
Any sheets printed from Gradecam will not grade with Lightning Grader. You will have to re-print any assessments you have currently to administer them in Lightning Grader.
What browsers do you work with?
Lightning Grader’s camera grading functionality will only work in the Chrome browser. We support for Firefox is on our roadmap. File upload grading will work with any browser.
What version of Chrome is best for Lightning Grader?
Version 49 and up for the Chrome browser works best.
Why does Lightning Grader camera grading only work in Chrome?
We chose Chrome due to the overwhelming majority of our users utilizing that browser. They are also on the leading edge of web technology and continue to provide a great user experience. We are in the process of making Lightning Grader camera grading work in other browsers.
What cameras do you work with?
All cameras marketed with the description "web cam" adhere to UVC standards and are viewable in Lightning Grader to date. Note that some low budget or older models have low quality (grainy, blurry, low light intolerant) images. Many newer (2013 or later) document cameras are UVC compliant and will work with Lightning Grader. Please test or confirm that a specific camera will work before a bulk purchase.
Do you work with Elmo cameras?
Lightning Grader will work with any Elmo cameras that are UVC compliant. Elmo claims that the TT-12i and TT-12iD models are both UVC compliant. This has not been confirmed with Lightning Grader. Older non-UVC compliant Elmo cameras will not work with Lightning Grader due to the proprietary software required.
Do I need any special software?
The Chrome browser is the only software required to use Lightning Grader’s camera grading. All other features of Lightning grader require no special software.
Do I have to download a plugin?
Lightning Grader does not require you to download a plugin.
Do I lose any functionality by switching from Gradecam to Lightning Grader?
Lightning Grader only supports Chrome and Gradecam supports other browsers. Lightning Grader only supports UVC compliant cameras and Gradecam supports some non-UVC compliant cameras.
What will I gain by switching to Lightning Grader?
You will see additional functionality, which includes constructed response question types. Lightning Grader also captures images of all the student’s work that can be reviewed online. Check it out here:
What is 'Grade from Scanner'?
Grade from Scanner is another way to grade your answer sheets via a file upload. You can use any scanner/copier to scan assessments and save them to a file. The file can then be uploaded and Lightning Grader will grade 100+ pages/minute.
What file types does Lightning Grader accept when using 'Grade from Scanner'?
When using ‘Grade from Scanner’ we accept .PDF, .TIF, .TIFF, .PNG, .JPEG, .JPG, .BMP.
Are there any special settings required for scanning?
We do not require any special settings to use our 'Grade from Scanner' feature. Just be sure the file type is supported.
How do I review the student’s work after I scan?
Lightning Grader allows the user to view the students work in the browser. To enable this feature you must be using the most recent version of the Enter/Edit page. Click ‘Try it Out’ at the top of the Enter/Edit page. (If you would like to switch back, you can always return to the previous version.) Once in the Enter/Edit page, you can review by “Student” or “Question.” The image of the students work will appear on the right hand side of the page, and you can input scores in the table on the left.
Does Lightning Grader score constructed response questions for me?
No. You must review the answers in the browser and allocate points accordingly.
Is there a question limit?
The question limit is set at 999 questions.
Is there a version limit?
We support up to 9 version bubbles.
Is there a limit to answer choices?
Currently, we support up to 9 response options.
What characters in the bubble does Lightning Grader support?
We support most characters inside of our bubbles. If you are planning to include anything out of the ordinary, please print a test sheet to ensure it works properly.
How many questions fit on one page?
We have two sizes for assessments, the smaller will fit 56 multiple choice questions. The larger size will fit 109 multiple choice questions. If you are using constructed response questions in an assessment, then the number of questions will vary based on the question types included.
Why do some assessments look bigger on the paper than others?
We have two sizes of assessment landscape templates. The smaller assessment will fit 56 multiple choice questions. The larger size will fit 109 multiple choice questions. Any assessment over 56 questions will produce the larger template. An assessment with constructed response questions will always use the larger template.
Do rubric questions change?
Rubric questions will not change. They will still be created in the 'Answer Key' process. However, in 'Sheet Designer', you now have the ability to change the rubric questions to print constructed response text boxes.
What question types does Lightning Grader currently offer?
Lightning Grader currently offers 6 different question types. Multiple Choice, Rubric, Sentence, Short Answer, Extended Response, and Essay.
What does a rubric question look like in Lightning Grader?
The rubric question can appear as bubbles or constructed response text boxes on the sheet as you determine in the 'Sheet Designer'.
What are the differences in question types?
The main difference in question types is the size of the text box that will be generated on the paper assessment. Currently there are 4 different text box sizes.
Is there a max file size I can upload to Lightning Grader?
There is a max file size of 50 MB when uploading a scanned file.
What if I am seeing a blank camera screen?
