The report can be used to view performance for a single Broad Coverage Assessment or to compare performance across an outgoing and incoming test. Because the Coming Back Assessments have the specific purpose of prioritizing unfinished learning from the previous year, it is important to interpret their results through a different lens. Traditionally, the results of interim or summative assessments are interpreted primarily through performance bands followed by an analysis of standards mastery. In the current environment, it is highly likely that making decisions based on performance bands alone will not help teachers prioritize the content that they should address, especially for a whole class. For this reason, we recommend interpreting the results of the Broad Coverage Assessments with the intention of prioritizing instruction.
Data from the Broad Coverage Assessments are organized by domain-specific assessment targets rather than individual standards; these targets correspond to common instructional topics. Using the reported data, teachers prioritize instruction and focus first on the content within the lowest-performing targets. Teachers can focus on as many of the targets as they have time for as long as they address them in the order of priority.

This example shows performance on the first three targets of the Incoming Grade 3 Math Broad Coverage Assessment.
Running this report on the Outgoing Grade 2 Math Broad Coverage Assessment in addition to the Incoming Grade 3 Math Broad Coverage Assessment would generate a similar report with side-by-side comparisons of each performance band for the two assessments.
