This article answers Frequently Asked Questions regarding transitioning from Legacy Item Bank (LIB) to New Item Bank (NIB). Questions and answers are split into the categories of Migration, Road Map, Content, Items, Assessments, Online testing, Reports & Data, Miscellaneous.
It is highly recommended users request all their items be migrated to New Item Bank before attempting to duplicate assessments from Legacy Item Bank to New Item Bank. Requests should be submitted to the DnA Support Team.
Transitioning to New Item Bank is a process where all users and user created content will be migrated/duplicated into New Item Bank. Assessments can also be duplicated from Legacy Item Bank into New Item Bank.
As districts are transitioned to New Item Bank, all users and any supported user created items will be migrated to New Item Bank from Legacy Item Bank. When the district is ready, DnA will disable Legacy Item Bank from the district's account so they can use New Item Bank moving forward.
There is a new tool allowing users to duplicate assessments from Legacy Item Bank into New Item Bank. This is done by assessment to encourage careful review of the items, weights, standards, etc. before publishing and administering the assessment. To migrated item to New Item Bank, users do need to submit a support request. To migrate assessments, this can be done individually from the View Assessments page in the Actions drop down. Take a look at Duplicate a Legacy Item Bank Assessment into New Item Bank to learn more.
By default, all authored items will be migrated from Legacy Item Bank to New Item Bank. If districts would like to specify certain banks or items to migrate, it's possible to limit the migration to those items only. Assessments are duplicated from Legacy Item Bank to New Item Bank on a per assessment basis, so the display can control which assessments are duplicated into New Item Bank assessments.
Any items which do not migrate over will need to be re-authored in New Item Bank (if supported).
Users do not have to move their assessments from Legacy Item Bank to New Item Bank unless that assessment is needed for future administrations.
These items will remain intact in Legacy Item Bank and can be re-authored in New Item Bank. We are working to support Multi-Level Rubrics and Multi-Part Items so those will be migrated once we support them in New Item Bank without needing to be re-authored.
Master ID (will be Legacy ID) is the ID given to items in Legacy Item Bank (for authored and Inspect items) and External ID is the ID given by DnA's internal Content creation team.
The name will remain the same, however, users have the option of updating the title.
Yes. Users have the ability to duplicate assessments individually, therefore selecting which assessments to rollover. Take a look at Duplicate a Legacy Item Bank Assessment into New Item Bank to learn more.
Once the items and/or assessments are migrated/duplicated from Legacy Item Bank to New Item Bank, there will be a version of the item/assessment in both places that function independently of each other. Revisions would need to be made to items/assessments in both Legacy Item Bank and New Item Bank.
Any items which do not migrate will still exist in Legacy Item Bank. The items will need to be re-created using item authoring (for supported item types) in New Item Bank.
If users attempt to search for an item in New Item Bank and cannot locate it, it's possible the item did not migrate and would need to be rebuilt. If multiple items are found to be missing after the migration, reach out to Support for additional help.
Districts will be transitioned in phases based on available functionality in New Item Bank. Some districts may have access to both temporarily, but the plan is to have all districts transitioned to New Item Bank and will deprecate Legacy Item Bank for the 2024-2025 school year.
We are still aiming for Fall/by the end of 2023 for authoring of new Multi-Level Rubric items. Any items authored in Legacy Item Bank will not be migrated until after authoring of new items is supported.
Legacy Item Bank will be deprecated prior to the start of the 2024-25 school year on June 30. Existing Legacy Item Bank assessments will not be administerable after this date.
Supporting additional calculators and online testing tools for items in New Item Bank is currently being considered.

Passage authoring is currently in development.
Passage authoring is currently in development. Therefore, some formatting buttons/tools are available. Numbered lines/passages and charts are not currently supported. This is being considered as we work to build out passage authoring. In the meantime, building the item and migrating it to Legacy is not ideal as those HTML additions to not always migrate well and can cause issues with the rendering and/or editing of the item/passage in New Item Bank.
Passage authoring is being built out and paired passages are not currently supported. However, this is being considered as an enhancement. In the meantime, users can insert a line of dashes between passages and include both passage texts in the same passage linked to items.
Passage authoring is currently in development and resizing the image is not currently supported. In the meantime, users can edit the image size outside of DnA and insert a smaller image.
Tables are not currently supported. As a work around, users can create a table in another editing tool and insert the table as a screenshot/image into the item.
At this time, DnA only supports scoring up to 9 points in New Item Bank. Rubric-less scoring is currently being considered. As a work around, users can create a placeholder Constructed Response question to use for scoring.
Multi-Part Items are not currently supported in New Item Bank. However, the development work to support these items is currently in progress. At this time, the item would need to be re-created with each part being a standalone question linked to the same assessment.
There is not currently functionality to record answers as responses. The request is being considering for future enhancements. As a work around, using Skills Assessments is recommended.
This is still being determined. Currently, once Legacy Item Bank is disabled, any assessments will be disabled from being administered. However, they would still be viewable for historical data.
An Inspect Spanish item bank is available for purchase. Districts should reach out to their Customer Success Manager (CSM) to learn more.
No, New Item Bank does not have a Public bank. Any items authored and published to the Public bank in Legacy Item Bank will migrate tied to the original author and appear in My Items or other banks where the item was published.

Yes, all DOK levels are represented in Pre-built Assessments. DnA works to ensure a representative spread across levels 1, 2, and 3.
There are Inspect Pre-Built Assessments built by DnA's internal Content team which cover various standards. DnA has a variety of prebuilt assessments that serve different purposes at different granularities. Although nothing specific to individual standards, DnA's Cluster Quizzes are the more granular. For Inspect content, users can use the Fluence ID - External ID in Legacy Item Bank to search for the items in New Item Bank using the External ID option from the search drop down.

When authoring a Constructed Response item, users can adjust the max points for the rubric up to 9 points.
Yes! Users can duplicate items to edit/revise and made additional versions of the original.
The author of an item can edit that item using the 3 dot button on the item card.
These short keys are not currently supported. Users must use the available buttons to apply the font styles when authoring in New Item Bank.
Yes, otherwise the original item will be altered. A copy of the item itself would need to be created and then included in the duplicated version of the assessment.
Saving items as drafts allows the user to come back and edit the item before publishing rather than publishing and then editing (which changes the revision). All items must be published prior to publishing the assessment the items are added to.
Users would need to check the permissions for locked items.
Yes! Users can duplicate assessments to edit/revise and made additional versions of the original assessment.
Users can filter the View Assessments list by New Item Bank assessments and then search by title.
Yes, Assessment Views will have to be rebuilt using new New Item Bank assessments.
If student's have already begun testing and data is already attached to the assessment, it would need to be duplicated and the revised item added. Alternatively, users could mark the incorrect item as Extra Credit on the current administration of the assessment.
Users can edit/revise items in New Item Bank and those revisions will pass through to the assessment option selected when publishing. The revision will not pass through to any assessments with student data or an administration in which a student has started testing. If a revision was made which would change the correct answer, marking the item as Extra Credit for the administration already started is recommended.
Please Note: The author of an item is the only one who can edit their items using the 3 dot menu on the item card.
The Printer Icon at the top right of Assessment Creation/Management allows users to print their assessment when either a draft or after being published. Only items which are marked with the paper icon are print compatible.
When items are locked (whether on an assessment or not), only users with locked item permissions can view them when browsing for items in New Item Bank.
The answer choices for Multiple choice items will only be shuffled if the assessment is both configured to allow shuffling and the particular item doesn't have lock choice order turned on.
For the use case described, it should be fine to leave the lock choice order setting in its default value as long as the relevant assessment administration's Online Testing Administration Settings has Randomize Answer Choices set to Normal Choice Order.
"Normal" is the default value. The item level "lock choice order" setting is primarily for an item where the answer choices should never be randomized (e.g. if there is an "all of the above" answer choice).
This warning message appears when duplicating any assessment in New Item Bank, regardless of if materials are attached. In New Item Bank, materials are only able to be added at the assessment level (not at the item level). Therefore, users should check the original assessment for any added materials to ensure any attachments that may not copy to the duplicated version of the assessment are accounted for.
In this case, it's recommended to create an assessment with all items that are supported for Printing. Any items which indicate the paper icon in the item card will be printable. Any items which are online only (the computer monitor icon) will not print.
Yes, Live Proctoring is supported for New Item Bank assessments!
The main issue with Live Proctoring is editing the administration window after student's have already started testing. This breaks the assessment ID link between New Item Bank and Live Proctoring and causes a spinning wheel with no student responses shown.
Historical data will not be removed.
Item Weight determines the 'importance' of the item relative to the entire assessment score. For example, Enter/Edit shows the item scored as all or nothing - (0 for nothing and 1 for all correct). If a student receives a 0, they would not earn any of the weight (or points) of the item. If a student recieves a 1, they would receive the entire weight (or points) of the item. Students can only earn parts of the credit/weight if Partial Scoring is enabled for a MS or EBSR item.
This symbol is not supported in the Equation Editor. Entering \approx is recommended.
