This lesson will guide you through the process of setting up Student Custom Fields, for example, eye color, favorite food, etc. These can then be added to the Student Demographics page. Custom fields should only be created by the district DnA System Admin. All end users that would like to utilize this feature should contact their district representative for creation.
Note: DnA will have install custom demographic meta data for custom reporting the first time custom demographic fields are created.
Required Permission: Manage Student Custom Fields
Where to Start
1. Click on the Administration Gear.
2. Under Custom Fields, select Student Custom Fields.
Create your field(s)
Once on the field creation page:
1. Select Add Column.
2. Give your column a Name.
3. Column Type- Would you like to enter text, number, date, boolean data?
4. Column Values- What data will you inputting into this column? For example, for Eye Color I want the options to be Blue, Green, and Brown. These are what will become my available options for this field.
5. Click Save.
You can also follow the "Where to Start" steps to come to this page to delete these custom demographics by selecting the Trash Can icon.
Clicking Save will NOT make these demographics show automatically on the Student Demographic details page, you must add them to that page via the custom layout tool. Click here to see the lesson 'Customizing the Student Demographics Page.'
Once you've added them to your custom layout, your custom fields will look something like the screenshot above.
