This article addresses the frequent confusion about which district prints as the Resident District for School of Choice students.
Many people are confused when the School of Choice District from Student Demographics prints as the Resident District on the IEP PDF for students whose services will be provided in the School of Choice District.
The above screenshot shows the student's demographic information as sent from the Student Information System.
The problem is that the District SIS system must identify the true resident district (where the student resides each night); however, when a family opts for a district through school of choice, the district accepting the child as school of choice is the resident district by pupil accounting standards.
On the notice page, you will need to indicate where the programs/services will be provided.
Select "School of Choice District: Chinchilla District"
The school of choice district will display as the resident district on the IEP in the demographic page and the notice page of the IEP. This aligns with the pupil accounting requirements and IDEA. The real resident district (where the student physically lives) will not display on any document with the exception of the student demographic page and count information as the district must show the real resident district for count and then code them as school of choice in the non-traditional codes.
