Depending on your district's need you may need to track short term independent study as a separate funding category. Determine which option your district falls under and setup accordingly.
Step 1 Verify Attendance Flags
Illuminate has default attendance flags that may or may not meet your district needs. Districts typically have two or three flags for independent study.
One flag usually indicates the independent study is pending.
A second flag usually indicates that the independent study is complete.
A third flag usually indicates that the independent study is incomplete.
Adjust flags accordingly so that they are familiar to your office staff members.
Option 1 Short Term Independent Study is counted as Regular Education
No extra setup is required. When students have an independent study contract the site will be responsible for setting the student's Enrollment Attendance Program as Independent Study for the number of days they will be on the contract. Then the attendance flags setup for independent study will be used when taking attendance.
Option 2 Short Term Independent Study is a separate funding category
This is usually the case for districts that need to track classroom based versus non classroom based ADA.
Independent study courses or sections will need to be created and tied to the short term independent study funding category.
Students will need to be scheduled to the independent study courses/sections while on a short term independent study contract.
Students will also need to be placed in the independent study enrollment attendance program while on a short term independent study contract.
Option 3 Short Term Independent Study is a separate funding category (recommended)
This is usually the case for districts that need to track classroom based versus non classroom based ADA.
Notify Illuminate that you need to track independent study as a separate funding category on the ADA reports. Since ADA is determined by a student's schedule and sites typically don't want to unschedule a student from their regular courses and temporarily schedule them to independent study courses Illuminate can setup a bypass.
Illuminate will setup the ADA report logic to first determine if any short term independent study flags have been used on a student prior to looking at schedules and determining funding categories. Just as in option 1 the student will still need to have their enrollment program changed to short term independent study for the dates they are on a contract.
Note: This will only happen if you notify Illuminate.
