This lesson outlines how to merge duplicate contacts or contacts with the same address and/or phone numbers associated with them in Illuminate. This task should be completed by a district administrator to avoid merging contacts incorrectly while not realizing the contact is linked to a student for whom he or she does not have access to view.
Where to Start

1. Click the Administrative Gear icon.
2. Under Student Contacts, click Duplicate Contact Finder.
Find Contacts to Possibly Merge

1. Select criteria by which you want to identify contacts that should possibly be merged. Note: You can return to this screen to run a search by the other criteria as well in case any contacts are only duplicates based on one or the other.
2. Click Find Duplicates.
Merge Contacts
You will see a list of contacts with similar names that happen to have either the same phone number or are associated with the same address. Click merge next to any address or phone number to merge the contacts, with the final merged contact having links to all households and phone numbers from all previous contacts.
Review the information associated with each address or phone number to determine if you wish to merge them. Note that when additional information (e.g., an additional/non-duplicated middle name) is associated with any contact displayed, that information will remain after the merge in addition to any information that was previously duplicated (e.g., a first name you see repeated under 2 separate contacts).
If you want to merge the contacts, click Merge Contacts.
Next Steps
Next you'll want to Merge Dwellings using the linked step-by-step guide.
