This unit will guide you through the Online Testing process! Lessons include Creating and Managing Student Portal Accounts, Enabling an Assessment for Online Testing, and Monitoring Progress or Proctoring an Assessment. Use this as a guide to facilitate the training in a computer lab. Show the videos before users log in or view one video at a time so users can follow along.
Before You Get Started
- Illuminate Education's Home Connection Student Portal must be enabled for the site by a member of your Illuminate Administration Team or Implementation Manager.
- Users must have the required permissions enabled to manage student portal accounts and assign assessments to be administered online.
- It is recommended that a completed assessment is available and accessible in each user's assessment list.
- Have a user administration goal in mind, or when to assign the assessment in accordance as appropriate.


Navigation: Students > Under Student Portal, select Manage Portal Access
Enable Student Portal Accounts
- If visiting for the first time, student portal accounts have not been created.
- Search and select students based on visibility in Add a Student
- Passwords are temporary and students will be prompted upon first login to provide a new one.
- Once students are enabled, a list will display of all students with portal access.
Manage or Reset Student Portal Accounts
- Once a Temporary Password has been assigned, it will be shown along with other information such as Password Changed if a student has logged in
- If a student forgets their password, select Disable Students and confirm.
- Follow the Enable Student Portal Account process to set a new password and reenable the student with portal access.

Navigation: Assessments > Select View Assessments > Use filters to find and select desired assessment > Select Online Testing Administration or Administration > Online Testing Administration
Assessment Roster (aka Assign to Students)
- Within an assessment, choose a set of students by selecting +Add Roster
- Student Select Filters are based on visibility, so by default, filters should adjust according to rosters
- Various settings available to support the administration of the assessment under Administration Settings, Tool Settings, and Assessment Review Settings
- Administration Settings provide options on time administered, additional password protection and randomizing of answer choices
- Tool Settings include enabling online testing tools like calculator, spell checker, digital notepad, and ruler
- Assessment Review Settings provides options on if results will show in portal once submitted, including a window of time and if to show the answer key
- Always select SAVE when making changes
By selecting All Students in the Student Filter, this will include any new students that may come in the future into your classroom automatically. When selecting individual students, it will be specific to that list and will not automatically include new students who may come into your classroom. You would have to adjust the list manually.
Manage Online Administration
- Rosters will appear on the Online Testing Administration dashboard
- Manage rosters using the Edit tool. Delete will allow you to remove the roster.
- Select the number of students under Students to view a list for progress monitoring, tracking, and action tools during the administration.

Navigation: Assessments > Select List Assessments > Use filters to find and select desired assessment > Select Online Testing Administration or Administration > Online Testing Administration >
For each roster created, there will be views available under Student Info/Tools, on the far right-hand side. Each opportunity to proctor provides you as the teacher, the ability to:
- Enable Student Help for students to message teachers when assistance is needed during administration
- Provide students with a Pause feature to lock their screen for a quick break as needed
- Use Go To to return to the other available views and Assessment Roster homepage.
There are three types of proctoring or views available: Student List or General, Aggregate, or Live.
> Select Students: #
Once students being an assessment Information about the assessment administration is provided such as Portal Access, Started At, Finished At, Time Elapsed, Viewing, Pauses, and Actions menu.
- The Action menu allows a teacher to force finish, pause, re-open the assessment, enable text to speech or reset the password for an individual student
- Selecting the Student ID will exit you out of the class roster and take you to the student profile
- Use Go To to return to the other available views and Assessment Roster homepage.
Illuminate Tip: When wanting to click on additional links such as student ID, use CTRL or CMD on the keyboard and select the student ID. It will open a new tab or window in the internet browser, without exiting a user from the current screen.

> Aggregate View
- This view shows an item by item progression of how students are answering in real-time
- Similar to a Response Frequency Report but in real, live time
- Some items such as teacher-evaluated or graded items are not currently supported in this view

> Live Proctoring
Dashboard View default
- Can be sorted by Last Name, First Name, ID, or Anonymous
- The student's magnifying glass will zoom in on the individual student's responses
- The item or question's magnifying glass will zoom in on answers from all students for that item or question in particular
- Easily switch to an Item View by selecting an item's Open icon
Item View
- Displays item or question results in the form of Tiles
- Can be sorted by Last Name, First Name, ID, or Anonymous
- Has a Zoom Feature to be able to view results for large classes easily
