Illuminate’s Standards-Based GradeBook is fully integrated with Illuminate’s robust assessment platform, and is designed to be used in tandem with Illuminate assessments.
Whenever you have an assignment, assessments, project, etc. that assesses more than one standard, it can be more efficient to first create an assessment and link it to your Standards-Based GradeBook. Illuminate will automatically create a separate column and calculate a unique score for each and every standard on your assessment.
Where to Start
There are a few steps to fully ensure success of linking assessments to a Standards Based GradeBook.
- Adjust and confirm assessments are aligned with standards
- Adjust and confirm assessments have a Standards Based Performance Band
- Link Assessment by Standard
- Confirm linked GradeBook assignment into appropriate GradeBooks
Align Standards to the Assessment
You must link the individual standard scores to your GradeBook, not the overall score. To do this, you must link & align standards to your assessment.

Create and/or Assign a Standards Based Performance Band to an Assessment
Your assessment’s performance bands must have the same number of levels as the grading scale in your GradeBook.
The performance bands translate the percentage score to a rubric-based score that is appropriate for a Standards-Based GradeBook. For example, if your GradeBook’s Grade Scale has 4 levels, then your assessment must also have 4 performance levels.

Linking an Assessment to a Standards Based Gradebook
Once the assessment you wish to link has student response data or results, you may link the assessment to the preferred GradeBook.
The assessment can be linked to the GradeBook by either overall score or by individual standards. Best practice for Standards Based Grading would be to link the assessment by standards into the appropriate GradeBook.
