This lesson serves as a guide to the Membership Component of the Michigan Student Data System submission.
Membership Component

Date of Count

The Date of Count = the "End Date" when generating the extract under Reports Tab-> State Reporting-> Select an extract by clicking on the respective link.
Student Residency

The Student Residency characteristic is drawn from the "Residential Status" field under the Special Ed Tab-> Student Demographics link.
In cases where students have multiple enrollments see below step "Students with Multiple Enrollments"
Students with Multiple Enrollments
This section is for students who have enrollments in multiple districts.
These steps should be followed ONLY for the above purpose.

The business logic for the MSDS Extract pulls Student Residency from the Students-> Student Demographics-> Misc. -> Student Residency field.
If this is not the correct Residential Status for your district but it is for one of the other districts in which the student is enrolled proceed to the next step.

- Select Students
- Click Residential Status

Click "Add" to add a Residential Status

1. Select your district from the "Site" dropdown.
2. Select the appropriate "Residential Status Code."
3. Input the "Start Date" of the status.
4. Input the "End Date" of the status.
5. Click "Save."
The new Residential Status will now display.
In the above example, when CCSS Schools pulls the MSDS Extract the student will have an "06" in the Membership Component for Student Residency. For all other districts in which the student is enrolled this student will have "14" reported in the Membership Component for Student Residency (i.e., DATA, Pickford, and Sault Schools).
Important Reminder: The Student Residency code will be reported from the Student Demographics page under "Students-> Demographic Details-> Misc.-> Student Residency" if there is no Residential Status flagged for the district pulling the extract on the Students-> Residential Status page. Alternatively, if there is a Residential Status that overlaps the count window flagged on Students-> Student Residency, it will be reported in the Membership Component for Student Residency in lieu of the data on the "Students-> Demographic Details-> Misc.-> Student Residency" page.
1. Students-> Demographic Details-> Misc.-> Student Residency
2. Students-> Residential Status Page
Important Reminder: If there is no Residential Status flagged for the district pulling the extract on the "Students-> Residential Status" page the Student Residency code will be reported from the Demographic Details page under "Students-> Demographic Details-> Misc.-> Student Residency." Alternatively, if there is a Residential Status that overlaps the count window flagged on Students-> Student Residency, it will be reported in the Membership Component for Student Residency in lieu of the data on the "Students-> Demographic Details-> Misc.-> Student Residency" page.
