The Legacy Item Bank is scheduled to be fully deprecated on June 30, 2024. Organizations have the chance to arrange item and assessment duplication and transfer from the Legacy Item Bank to the new Item Bank, and have the Legacy Item Bank disabled at any time before this date. However, the Legacy Item Bank will be disabled for all organizations on June 30, regardless of whether these steps have been taken. The following article outlines what users can expect when interacting with Legacy Item Bank items, assessments, and data after it has been deprecated.

Where to Start
- Select Assessments.
- Under General, select View Assessments.
Once the Legacy Item Bank has been disabled, Legacy Item Bank assessments will appear on the View Assessments page with grayed out title links, compared to the blue title links of other assessment types. This color change provides a visual difference between assessment types, but Legacy Item Bank assessments can still be accessed by selecting the title link from the View Assessments page. Most assessment data and functions can still be accessed, including the ability to duplicate the assessment to the new Item Bank.
- Select the title link of the desired Legacy Item Bank assessment from the View Assessments page.
- Select the Advanced dropdown menu.
- Select Duplicate Item Bank Assessment.
- Select New Item Bank as the location for duplication. Set the desired settings for duplicating the assessment as Published or Not Published.
- Once the Legacy Item Bank has been disabled, the option to duplicate Legacy Item Bank assessments to the Legacy Item Bank will no longer be available.
- Select Duplicate.
Most items, including both Inspect items and user-authored items, will successfully duplicate from Legacy Item Bank assessments to new Item Bank assessments. To learn more about what will or will not transfer, visit the Transitioning from Legacy Item Bank to New Item Bank FAQ.
Once an assessment has been duplicated from the Legacy Item Bank to the new Item Bank, and the Legacy Item Bank has been disabled, we suggest users download the PDF of the Legacy Item Bank assessment to compare with the new Item Bank assessment draft. This allows an easy comparison to see what did and did not transfer.
The Answer Key for Legacy Item Bank assessments will appear as normal after the Legacy Item Bank has been disabled. However, the item links under the Question column will display items differently depending on whether the item is Technology Enhanced or not.
- Select Details.
- Select the desired question number to view a preview of the item.
- Items that are not Technology Enhanced, such as Multiple Choice items, will display the item stem and correct answer, as well as any included rationale and/or rubrics.
- Items that are Technology Enhanced, such as Math Equation Response items, will display the item stem and any included rationale and/or rubrics. However, the preview and correct answer for the item will be replaced with the error message, "The preview of this item is unavailable since Legacy Item Bank has been disabled."
After the Legacy Item Bank has been disabled, historical data linked to Legacy Item Bank assessments will be maintained, and reports to view that assessment data will continue to function. However, similar to the question previews within the Legacy Item Bank assessment Answer Key, reports that link assessment items may display differently, depending on the type of item. Non Technology Enhanced items will display an item preview as normal, but Technology Enhanced items will only display the item stem, rationale, and/or rubric, without the item preview or correct answer.
Non Technology Enhanced items, such as Multiple Choice items, will display the full item preview, including the item stem and item preview with the correct answer, as well as any included rationale and rubric.
The following item types are not Technology Enhanced:
- Constructed Response
- Evidence-Based Selected Response (EBSR)
- Multiple Choice
- Multiple Select
Technology Enhanced items, such as Math Equation Response items, will display the item stem and any included rationale and rubric, but will not include the item preview with the correct answer. Instead, the following error message will display: "The preview of this item is unavailable since Legacy Item Bank has been disabled."
The following item types are Technology Enhanced:
- Charting
- Classification
- Drag in the Blank
- Drawing Response
- Explicit Constructed Response
- Graphing
- Hot Spot
- Hot Text
- Image Drag and Drop
- Inline Dropdown
- Matching Table
- Match List
- Math Equation Response
- Multiple Binary
- Number Line
- Ordering
Prebuilt reports will continue to display Legacy Item Bank assessment data, but the reports that feature item preview hyperlinks will display restricted item details for Technology Enhanced items. The following prebuilt reports include item hyperlinks that may be affected.
When viewing the Assessment Statistics Report and selecting the Item Statistics option, the Question column lists hyperlinked item previews.
When viewing the Matrix Report, the Question row lists hyperlinked item previews.
When viewing the Response Frequency Report, under the Rubric section, the Question column lists hyperlinked item previews.
When viewing the Blueprint Report, the Question column lists hyperlinked item previews. The Type column, which usually displays the item type of each question, will also appear as blank, only displaying if each item includes a rubric, or is set for extra credit.
Test Booklets and Teacher Booklets for Legacy Item Bank assessments will still be accessible, and can be generated in the same way that assessment booklets will generate for any other assessment type. These booklets will continue to look the same as they did prior to the Legacy Item Bank being disabled. Note that only Technology Enhanced items are affected when the Legacy Item Bank is disabled, and Test and Teacher Booklets do not currently support Technology Enhanced items; therefore, the booklets will not be affected.
