This lesson is to show you how to add standards to a Flexible assessment. As an optional tool, Standards that are added and aligned to an assessment help to provide more in-depth opportunities to determine student needs.
Before You Get Started
Before you start building, it is encouraged to:
- Have at least 1 Flexible assessment available.
- Access to or ability to use standards in an assessment.
- Be familiar with which standards are desired to be aligned to the Flexible assessment.
Where to Start
- Select Filter Standards to choose the standards on your entire assessment.
Click Edit on an existing assessment to access the Answer Key and edit Standards Alignment.
Filter Standards
By aligning Standards, you will be providing additional awareness as to which items or questions support and reinforce a particular skill or multiple skills. This also helps to see how often you are assessing a skill versus others in your assessment.
When selecting standards, you will go through a series of options to find exactly what you are looking for:
- Select the providers or type of standards to search from.
- Select the subject areas within the selected providers.
- Select the grade levels within those subject areas of the selected providers.
You can navigate back and forth within these filters or options to select all of the standards or skills you are assessing in your entire assessment.
Providers are the standard sets you have access to. There can be standards that are National (available for all states) or standards that are State Specific such as California Common Core Content Standards.
- Select the checkbox for each standard set to find standards for.
- To remove any selections, select Clear.
Subjects are determined by the selected providers chosen.
- Select the checkbox for each subject area to find standards for.
- To remove any selections, select Clear.
Grade Levels are determined by the selected subjects and providers chosen.
- Select the checkbox for each grade level you wish to find standards for.
- To remove any selections, select Clear.
Collections are previously created bundles of standards to search within. Rather than use the Providers, Subjects, and Grade Levels, you can filter and find a smaller set of standards to add to this assessment.
A list of any Collections shared or created will be available to filter and refine your standards search even more. Continue to choose the standards you wish to be on the assessment.
Collections if selected will only display standards that also match filtered Providers, Subjects, and Grade Levels. It is best practice to either start with searching from Collections OR clear previously filtered standards before applying a collection to your standards list.
Typically this is a permission-based feature that can be used in Assessments and when linking standards to Gradebook Assignment. Learn more at Creating and Managing Standard Collections!
Standards will appear for you to choose from and add to the assessment.
- Select the radio button to attach the standard to the assessment.
- If more than one provider, subject, and/or grade level is chosen, they will appear in a foldable to help navigate through the menu.
- To maximize your search, use the Search Bar to find what you are looking for faster.
- Any standards selected are posted in the Selected Standards viewer, showing the total number of standards selected so far.
- To remove a standard, click the X next to that standard or select Clear All to remove all standards.
- To close this menu and return to the assessment, select X.
Need to add more standards? Go for it! Just keep selecting and applying providers, subjects, and grade levels to add the standards you need.
Start to align your items or questions to a standard or multiple standards. For each item, you can do the following:
- Select + Standards.
- Search for standards in the Search Bar.
- Click to select the standards you want to align to this time. Select one or more standards, as they apply to the item.
- Forget or need to remove a standard? Select Standards to return to Adding Standards to refine.
Click anywhere off of the menu to close.
