Item Creation Tool Bar

This lesson guides users through the available tools for creating an Item Bank item. Use these tools to enhance your items with tables, text styling, and more.

Where to Start

The Assessment navigation tile.
  1. Go to Assessments.
  2. Select Browse Item Bank.
  3. Select Create Item.

  1. Select into the Item Stem or Answer Choices of the item to access the tool bar.
Table

  1. Select the table icon to create a table within the item.

  1. Select the + to add a row and X to remove a row.
  2. Select the + to add a column and X to remove a column.
  3. Select the table icon with the X to delete the entire table.
  4. Select the image or math icon to add to the selected space within the table.
Text Styles

  1. Select the B to bold the text.
  2. Select < > to create a code snippet.
  3. Select the I to italicize the text.
  4. Select the T to strike through the text.
  5. Select the U to underline the text.
Image

  1. Select the image icon to upload an image.
An image of a US map appears within the Item Stem. A blue bar is to the right of the image which can be used for scaling the image. There are left, right, center, and alt text options along the bottom menu. The trash can icon appears at the bottom right.
  1. The image uploads at 100% of its original size. Select the image and select and drag the blue bar to automatically resize the image as needed.
  2. The image defaults to being left justified. Select center or right to change the justification.
  3. Select Alt text to add alternative text to the image, which can be used with screen readers.
  4. Select the trash can to delete the image.

For the best results, we recommend using .PNG, .JPG, or .SVG image types under 1 MB in size.

Video

  1. Select the film icon to embed a video.

  1. The Insert Video popup window appears. Enter a URL from YouTube, Vimeo, or Google.
  2. Adjust the width and height of the video if needed.
  3. Enter Start and End times (in seconds) to initially load a specific segment of the video. Leaving the start and end at 0 plays the entire video.
  4. Select Insert to embed the video.

If a Start and/or End time are entered, the entire video can still be accessed by students.

Audio

  1. Select the audio icon to embed an audio file.

  1. To insert an audio file saved on your device, select the Upload File tab.
  2. Select Choose File.
  3. Search for and select the desired file.
  4. Select Insert.

  1. To insert audio from SoundCloud, select the Insert SoundCloud URL tab.
  2. Enter the SoundCloud URL into the URL field.
  3. Select Insert.

For the best results, we recommend using MP3 audio files under 5 MB in size.

Math

  1. Select the sigma icon to add math symbols and/or equations.

  1. Select any needed math symbols to create equations or other math prompts.
  2. Select the green checkmark to insert selected symbols.
Lists

Create a bulleted or numbered list by selecting the respective list type.
