LockDown Browser Guide for Students: Chromebook

This guide assists students with using the lockdown browser for Chromebooks during online quick code testing.

Where to Start

What you will need:

  • Your student ID, username, email address, or state student ID.
  • The access code for the assessment your teacher has assigned to you.
  • A Chromebook with the DnA Lockdown Browser extension installed.

Enter Login Information

  1. Go to illuminate.online.
  2. Enter your Student Login.
    • This will be your Local Student ID, State Student ID, email address, or Portal username, provided by your teacher.
  3. Enter the Access Code provided by your teacher.
  4. Select Next.

  1. Check the Student Details and Assessment Details to make sure you're logging into the correct assessment.
  2. Select Confirm to access the assessment, or Go Back to return to the login page.

LockDown Browser Didn't Load

If the Chromebook LockDown Browser is properly set up, the LockDown Browser should automatically open, and the assessment title page should load. If the browser extension is not installed, or another issue occurs, the page above will appear. Use the provided troubleshooting steps to address the issue.

  • If a window pops up asking you to confirm opening the LockDown Browser, select the Open or OK button.
  • Use the included link to try relaunching the browser.
  • If the LockDown Browser doesn't load, you may need to install the Chromebook LockDown Browser. Contact your teacher for help.

Start Your Test

  1. The title screen for the assessment appears. Select Begin Test to start testing.

Select/Enter Answers

  1. Complete the online test as usual, selecting and entering your answers for each question.
  2. Once you have completed the test, select Review/Finish Test.

Review Answers and Finish

  1. On the Review page, review your responses and make sure every question has been answered.
  2. Once you are ready, select Finish.

Once you select Finish to complete your test, you won't be able to come back to enter or change your answers unless your teacher reopens your test for you.

Return to Portal

  1. A message appears confirming that the test has been completed. Select Return to Renaissance DnA Online Testing.

Once the LockDown Browser has been closed, you will be able to access other web pages and applications again.
