This guide is to provide how the CORE SEL Survey Assessments are packaged, best administered and reviewed for reporting.
CORE SEL Surveys need to be installed and shared by your Customer Success Manager.
There are four surveys included within the CORE SEL bundle:
- CORE SEL Social-Emotional Survey - Elementary Fall
- CORE SEL Social-Emotional Survey - Elementary Spring
- CORE SEL Social-Emotional Survey - Secondary Fall
- CORE SEL Social-Emotional Survey - Secondary Spring
The elementary surveys are identical, as are the secondary surveys. They are meant to be administered at the beginning and end of the school year to show any changes.
The questions are Non-Traditional Selected Response or multiple select items, which means students will need to be reminded to pick only one answer even though the online test will allow them to pick more than one.
Items are set up to score on a Likhert Scale (1-4 and 1-5). The more positive responses, get higher points. So the higher the overall score, the more positive SEL indicators/skills a student has.
The best way to review CORE Survey information about your students is by CORE Domains, or question groups, in your assessment setup. Each domain has it's own performance band that can be assigned to help evaluate a student's SEL growth.
Learn how to apply performance bands to specific questions groups!
These surveys would also need to have a unique set of Performance Bands associated with them. Specifically for overall score due to the nature of non-traditional selected response scoring:
Another option could include creating a performance band that does not fall students into an overall band, but present actionable goals to review the results by Question Groups:
Creating an overall performance that promotes actionable goals or does not visually show a pass or fail process, can help support reviewing CORE Competencies or Question Groups for SEL needs and growth. Consider a child's overall health is not if three or more competencies are Very Healthy but rather, any level of health in a competency should be reviewed and considered to a child's overall well-being.
The above performance band needs to be created in your Illuminate account. Learn how to create your own performance bands!
