Description: This is an abstract for Highlighting, an online testing tool that can be enabled for students when taking an assessment online.
Purpose: Provides an explanation of how Highlighting works and the student view.
Navigation: Assessments > View Assessments > 'Title of Assessment' > Administration > Online Testing > Test in Portal > Tool Settings > Highlighting
Supported Assessment Types
Highlighting is available for Item Bank Assessments only and can only be used on Passages.
Highlighting Review
Highlighting is a tool that is available for Passages only on Item Bank assessments.
When enabled, students can select groups of words to:
- Highlight in yellow, blue, red, orange, or green
- Strike through
- Underline
- Copy
If the same passage tied to more than 1 item, the highlighting carries over from question to question.
Highlighting can only be seen by students; it does not appear for teachers to view when scoring.
Student View
For students to Highlight answer choices:
- Click and drag across a word or group of words.
- Select which highlighting function you'd like to use.
- After selecting a function, the group of words with be highlighted accordingly.
Highlighting can be removed by clicking on a highlighted section and clicking the Trash Can icon that appears in the highlight tool box.
