Description: This is an abstract for the Ruler, an online testing tool that can be used on individual items.
Purpose: Provides an explanation of how the Ruler works and the student view.
Navigation: Assessments > View Assessments > 'Title of Assessment' > Administration > Online Testing > Test in Portal > Tool Settings > Ruler
Supported Assessment Types
Ruler is available for Item Bank Assessments only. Ruler can only be used based on the item setting or disabled. It cannot be enabled across the entire assessment.
Ruler Review
There are 4 different rulers available:
- 6 inch
- 12 inch
- 15 centimeter
- 30 centimeter
When enabled on an item, students have the ability to measure different shapes or objects on that question of the assessment.
If you are creating your own items, and want to enable a ruler, you will find it under Math Tools on Step 2 (Details) of the item creation process. You can enable a single ruler or All Rulers.
Student View
For students to access the ruler:
- Select Tools
- Click on the size of ruler
- The ruler can be rotated by clicking and dragging the Illuminate logo to the left of the ruler
- Click and drag anywhere on the ruler to move it around the screen
