Description: This is an abstract for Spell Checker, an online testing tool that can be enabled for students when taking an assessment online.
Purpose: Provides an explanation of how Spell Checker works and the student view.
Navigation: Assessments > View Assessments > 'Title of Assessment' > Administration > Online Testing > Test in Portal > Tool Settings > Spell Checker
Supported Assessment Types
Spell Checker is available for both Item Bank Assessments and Hybrid or Flexible Assessments.
It can be enabled or disabled across the entire assessment, but defaults to Use Item Setting. In order to be used on a Hybrid or Flexible Assessment, it must be set to Enable.
Spell Checker Review
Spell Checker underlines spelling mistakes with a red line. It does not check grammar.
To activate the tool, students will type in the provided text box and then select the ABC ✔ icon to reveal any spelling errors.
Student View
- Type into the provided space.
- Click the ABC ✔ icon.
- Any misspelled words will be underlined in red.
