Description: This is an abstract for the different Calculators, online testing tools that can be enabled for students when taking an assessment online.
Purpose: Provides an explanation of how the Calculators work and the student view.
Navigation: Assessments > View Assessments > 'Title of Assessment' > Administration > Online Testing > Test in Portal > Tool Settings > Calculator Basic, Scientific, and/or Graphing
Supported Assessment Types
Calculators are available for both Item Bank Assessments and Flexible Assessments.
Within Flexible Assessments and Item Bank assessments, calculators can be enabled or disabled across the entire assessment, but defaults to Use Item Setting. In order to be used on a Flexible assessment, it must be set to Enable.
If an item on the assessment already has a calculator designated, the calculator enabled in the administration settings will be available in addition to the item's calculator.
Item Bank assessments currently do not support calculator settings at the individual item level, requiring calculator settings to be enabled for the entire assessment.
Calculators Review
There are 3 different calculators that can be enabled:
- Basic
- Scientific
- Graphing
All calculators are Desmos calculators.
Student View
- Click the calculator icon.
- Select Basic.
- Click into the white space to use a keyboard to type equations.
- OR Click on numbers and functions on the provided keypad.
- Click on the blue bar to drag the calculator around the page or select the X to close.
- Click the calculator icon.
- Select Scientific Calculator.
- Click into the white space to use a keyboard to type equations.
- OR Click on numbers and functions on the provided keypad.
- Additional functions can be found in the gray bar.
- Click on the blue bar to drag the calculator around the page or select the X to close.
- Click the calculator icon.
- Click into the white space to use a keyboard to type equations.
- OR Click on they keyboard icon to reveal a keypad to click on numbers and functions.
- Functions will appear according to the equation typed into the space.
- Click on the blue bar to drag the calculator around the page or select the X to close.
