This lesson walks through how to link DnA assessments to your Schoology account. If you are unsure if this is for you, contact your System Administrator.
How LTI Works
It is important to understand how LTI works, and what it does and does not provide. DnA is an LTI tool provider, which means that LTI tool consumers - including Schoology - can create DnA assessments as assignments within their systems. These assignments are then seen by students in Schoology, who can then open either an iFrame or a new tab, automatically signing them into DnA to take the assessments. A single, final score is passed back, though it should be noted that LTI does not support standards-based scores.
There are several requirements for LTI to work:
- A tool consumer that supports LTI, which is set up with DnA credentials, and configured to pass back grades.
- Matching student and teacher email addresses in both the consumer and DnA.
- A workflow that starts with the student clicking into the assignment from the consumer.
This last requirement is important. For a grade to be pushed back to the consumer, the student must have first clicked into the DnA assessment from Schoology. As such, assessments taken by students who navigated directly into DnA cannot have their grades pushed over after the fact.
Where to Start

- Select Administration Options or the gear icon.

- Use the copy icon to copy the information onto your clipboard.
- You can Generate a New Secret key if needed.
This is the information you will need to provide the selected LMS in order to complete the integration.
Teacher Assessment Setup
Once the connection is set up, teachers may start to link DnA assessments with Quick Code administration access only. Teachers can follow the steps below to set up the assessment in DnA, and then link it to an assignment in Schoology to administer to students.
- Create and publish an assessment within DnA.
- Create a Quick Code administration window for the assessment.
- To review this process, see the guide Online Testing Setup Using a Quick Code.
- Log into Schoology.
- Select Courses, and select the appropriate course.
- Under the Add Materials dropdown, select Add File/Link/External Tool, and select External Tool.
- Under Tool Provider, select the appropriate DnA site.
- Enter an assessment Title, and Enable Grading, if desired.
- Select Submit.
- Now that it has been created, select the assessment.
- From the Assessment dropdown, select the desired DnA assessment, and select Link to Assessment.
Student Administration
Once the created DnA assessment is linked to an assignment in Schoology, students can then take the test through Schoology, following the steps below.
- Log into Schoology.
- Select Courses, and select the appropriate course.
- Select the assessment.
- The DnA assessment loads within an iFrame, allowing students to log in through an SSO.
