Scheduling Parameters and Constraints are the Setup phase in scheduling. The steps outlined in Phase 3 are designed to make the building of the board and making schedule edits easier and more efficient.
Some of the steps in Phase 3 roll over from previous years, and will only require updates/edits moving forward. For those following the Quick Scheduling Guide, some of these steps are intentionally skipped in the interest of time.
For large schools or those with complex schedules, Phase 3 will be an invaluable tool for improving scheduling efficiency in future phases.
1. Teacher/Course Affiliations
Teacher Course Affiliations determine which courses teachers are available to teach. This affects the drop down menus when assigning teachers and/or courses to draft sections. See Teacher/Course Affiliations help document for details.
2. Teacher/Timeblock Affiliations
Teacher Timeblock Affiliations determine when teachers can teach and how to designate "prep periods." This affects the teacher names showing in the drop down menu when assigning teachers to draft sections if a timeblock has already been added. See Teacher/Timeblock Affiliations help document for details.
3. Optional - Student Restrictions
Student restrictions allow for adding rules to prevent a student from being placed into sections with particular teachers or students. See Student Restrictions (Optional) help document for details.
4. Optional - Teacher-Course Links
Teacher-Course Links allow for linking courses so that when scheduling students into one of those courses, they will automatically be scheduled to the other courses satisfying this constraint.
For example, Sheila signed up for Course A with Ms.Scott this semester, eventually she will need to take Course B with Mr. Mante. See Teacher-Course Links (Optional) help document for details.
5. Optional - Student-Timeblock Exclusions
Student-Timeblock Exclusions allows for setting constraints for students to be blocked from sections in a specified timeblock. See Student-Timeblock Exclusions (Optional) help document for details
