In Illuminate, a student is flagged as Socio-Economically Disadvantaged (SED) when the student meets either one of two criteria:

    1.  A student's parent education level has been marked as "Not a high school graduate"

    OR

    2. The student has a free or reduced lunch program record with a start date within the current academic year.

If a student has either of the above, they will reflect as SED on the Student Demographic page.

Please note that in Arizona, 'Parent Education Level' is not tracked, so SED status is based off of active Free/Reduced Lunch program records only.

You can locate the "Socioeconomically Disadvantaged" field on the Student Demographics page under the Sensitive Information section.  If you don't see it, you can request that a user with administrative access add it to the Student Demographic layout.  Here is a direct link to the help document on customizing the Student Demographic page: https://illuminate.zendesk.com/hc/en-us/articles/206526548-Customize-the-Student-Demographics-Page

In addition the appropriate system key should be applied to the code in the code table. I made sure that the system key was enabled for that particular code. You should see the alerts populate with the nightly import tonight.

Please feel free to contact us via email - help@illuminateed.com - for any additional assistance or if you have students that are still not showing up with the SED alert. Thank you!

I had a question about the second criteria: 2. The student has a free or reduced lunch program record with a start date within the current academic year.

How would I be able to SED data for previous years? I recently pulled SED data from previous year, but I realized students who are no longer in our district (i.e. graduated, transfer) had a FALSE SED status, while they were SED in the previous years.

    Hi, Julie!

So sorry that you didn't get a follow up response! In order to view previous year's program data, you would need to add Program Start Date and Program End Date to a custom report. You could filter end date to on or before the last date of that academic year and start date to on or after the first day of school. Feel free to email us at help@illuminateed.com if you have a specific report you'd like us to help you with!
