Itembank: How can I add math symbols to a Math Equation Response item without having to pick from the Math Symbols menu?
When creating a Math Equation Response in Itembank, you have the option to "Add New Math" in the Stem of the question. How can I add the different symbols/equations without having to search through the menu of Math Symbols?

Official comment
When you select the 'Add New Math' option when creating a Math Equation Response Item a red rectangle will appear for you to put math symbols into. When you do this, you can select the Math Symbols button to pick different symbols and premade equations, but when you select the symbol, you will notice that the math in the red rectangle will not match the symbol/equation you selected, but will be different keyboard characters.
This means that you can type in the different keyboard characters into the red rectangle without having to search through the Math Symbols menu to find what you are wanting to input. Below are different Primary and Secondary Math Symbols that you can type into the Math Equation Editor that are more common to help speed up your item creation process.*
*These are not all of the symbols that are available. If there is one you are looking for that is not on this list you can check the Math Symbols menu for additional options.Comment actions
Hi Lori! So sorry for the delay in getting back to you on this. As of right now, the only way to continue on the same line is to add at least one symbol after where you are going to put the equation as you mentioned. Our development team is aware of this issue but for now you will need to add something past where the equation will go so you can click out of the equation editor.

Hi Illuminate Team,
This is a pretty annoying bug in your math equation editor and a year later it's still a problem. Can we get an ETA for resolution? We're experiencing a lot more quality issues with ItemBank items and formatting issues so we're trying to redo items or create our own with the tools available.

Just spent waaaay too long figuring this out (found your question while searching for the answer on help!). BUT....to do Segment AB, insert a new math equation and type "bar(XY)" to get the line segment symbol. "~~" will give similarity symbol. "vec(XY)" will give ray symbol. These are also in the math symbols quickads and look like a lowercase "a" with these above the letter. Just replace the "a" and use parenthesis if you have more than one symbol.

Me again....I got stuck needing a triangle symbol....and this website's shortcuts (for a Mac...I'm guessing PCs have an equivalent somewhere!) was a great solution and provided other shortcuts. https://www.webnots.com/optionoraltkeyshortcutstoinsertsymbolsinmacosx/
